With Donnarumma heading into the final year of his contract, this summer is the last in which the Parisians can secure a fee for the Italian, so a decision needs to be made before the summer window. Nonetheless, Le Parisien journalist Dominique Sévérac believes that PSG are in a no lose situation considering their backup plan.
“PSG are staying calm because they believe they’re in a win-win situation,” Sévérac wrote (h/t Foot01 ). “Either Donnarumma stays on the club’s terms, or a new goalkeeper arrives. If the negotiations fall through, several keepers have already been identified and approved by Luis Enrique.
“At the top of that list is Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, who was named Ligue 1’s best goalkeeper this season and is currently Didier Deschamps’ No. 2 with the French national team.”
Recently, ESPN reported , citing sources, that Aston Villa have contacted LOSC Lille about a potential move for 23-year-old Chevalier.
He’s seen as a possible replacement for Emiliano Martínez, who is looking to leave the club. Chevalier impressed this past season, particularly in the Champions League, and has been with Lille since the age of 10.
The French club is asking for a fee of around £40 million. PSG are also keeping tabs on him and consider Chevalier a backup option if they can’t agree to a contract extension with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
