Workers find over 10 corpses, including infant, while deepening Malaysia’s Klang River

Workers find over 10 corpses, including infant, while deepening Malaysia’s Klang River
Arya News - Apart from the dead bodies, records show that a total of 94,000 metric tonnes of floating waste have been collected along the Klang River between 2016 and April 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR – WORKERS in the Selangor government’s Klang River flood mitigation project have made a series of gruesome discoveries on-site.
According to Landasan Lumayan managing director Syaiful Azmen Nordin, more than 10 corpses including an infant have been found in the river since they started work on Nov 1, 2022.
He said their standard operating procedure for such discoveries was to report the matter to the police.
“Usually the bodies would be intact.
“Apart from the dead bodies, records show that a total of 94,000 metric tonnes of floating waste have been collected along the Klang River between 2016 and April 2025.
“People need to change their mentality about throwing rubbish or anything else into the river,” he said at a press conference after a site visit to the river stretch in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, on Monday (June 16).
Syaiful said workers deepening the riverbed have also found many unusual items that would make one wonder how they ended up there.
Among the items are electrical appliances such as a refrigerator, lorry tyres, motorcycles as well as furniture including beds and sofas.
“We can assume they have been washed away during floods, but the numbers are too many.
“Some items could have been recycled.
“There needs to be more civic consciousness and awareness among the public about taking care of our rivers,” said Syaiful.
