Arya News - Here`s how the Yankees` projected lineup looks for 2025 season following their trade for outfielder Cody Bellinger.
NEW YORK – There’s no one to replace the irreplaceable Juan Soto, and the Yankees’ lineup still needed multiple impact hitters to revive their pennant hopes in 2025.
Adding Cody Bellinger was a logical first step toward a revamped batting order.
On Thursday, the Yankees acquired the lefty-hitting Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs , as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Chicago Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger celebrates in the dugout after hitting a solo home run during a 2023 game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
GM Brian Cashman isn’t done making additions, but here’s how manager Aaron Boone might write out the lineup if today was Opening Day:
Yankees" projected lineup for Opening Day 2025
Jazz Chisholm, 2B
Aaron Judge, RF
Cody Bellinger, CF
Giancarlo Stanton, DH
Jasson Dominguez, LF
Austin Wells, C
Anthony Volpe, SS
DJ LeMahieu, 1B
Oswaldo Cabrera/Oswald Peraza, 3B
What"s next for Yankees?
There’s more to be done here, with at least one big corner infield transaction due.
Bellinger’s ability to play first base allows the Yankees to chase another outfielder via trade or free agency, but they’d like to move Judge back to right field and Bellinger upgrades the overall outfield defense in center.
Free-agent options at first base include Christian Walker, Pete Alonso and Carlos Santana, with the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado and free agent Alex Bregman as third base possibilities.
The Yankees’ defense is better served with Chisholm Jr. back at second base, his natural position, and a strong defender at third base, given their strong pitching staff – including the addition of free agent lefty Max Fried, who produces a lot of left-side grounders.
